Kidney donor, recipient doing well - Times Herald Article
Thanks to Chris Hernandez, the retired Oakland cop can shelve any end-of-life decisions for now and who knows how many years. Hernandez, 43, donated a kidney to Williams on April 29. As of this week, both donor and recipient are doing emotional and physical cartwheels. "Not a day goes by that I don't think about what he did," Williams said. "This isn't about me. It's about him." The two were hardly strangers when Hernandez decided his first surgery would be offering a kidney. He's been a staff member at the Salvation Army's Kroc Center in Suisun City since the community center opened three years ago. Williams has been a member since September, 2013, using the facility to keep in shape and as a focus for fellowship.
